Well once again I was caught camera-less in a good situation. At the farmer's market today we were swept yet again into the petting zoo... my favorite place, usually, except for my intense sympathy for the poor little animals being beset upon my hoards of toddlers.
Anyway, today Fintan "gets it" and realized these big furry (and some small and some feathery) creatures he groups into the category "gato" [that's cat in Spanish, but to him all animals are gatos, especially peros (dogs)] are fun domestic creatures put on this Earth for his personal amusement.
So this morning we spent half an hour chasing ducks, picking up pellets and putting them into the food dish, sitting on soggy astroturf, closing the gate over and over to the annoyance of the gate attendant, petting goats who like to butt their heads against your leg (or nibble on your pants, or in my case, down the back crack area of my ... back), etc. The fowl are good at fleeing, but the goats are pretty calm (and numerous). There were some baby chicks being tortured enough by the other squealing too-young-to-be-handling-them toddlers so we skipped those. We found two sweet bunny rabbits in a bin and Fin just loved that. They were soft and docile and wiggled their little noses...
There were also five baby piggies lying like ... I hate to say it ... sausages side by side between the chicks and bunnies, and that was my favorite part. I love piggies. These were clean and sweet and just trying not to get stepped on. Fin wasn't so interested but if I didn't have to watch him I would have been all over those little piggies.
There was a tiny baby goat, too. One girl (about age 7?) asked the mamma goat if she could pick her up, then, after hearing some answer inaudible to adults but quite clear to a young girl infatuated with baby things, she did pick her up. The mamma was eating, but quickly realized something was amiss. She started baying for her little one, looking around the pen, torn between the pellets and the missing kid. She did find her in the arms of the little girl, and then she stood vigilantly by the little girl kissing and nuzzling her baby in the girl's arms until the girl finally put her down. The girl was saying something sweet to the mamma to reassure her but the mamma had ceased to speak "little girl" language and was all about "goat" language again. It kind of brought a tear to my eye.
Anyway, Fin likes animals. Nuff said.

HERCULES!!!
Okay, nothing to do with Hercules.
Bunky had his 15-mo. visit to the pediatrician yesterday. Daddy attended this time. It was fun.

26.0 lb.
33 in.
I think this is slightly less weight than last time, but that's okay. He's definitely taller. By age 2 he'll definitely be over 3 feet tall! We're growing a monster!
More pictures soon.
Bunky likes to sit in the car and drive. He pushes all the buttons and today I had the key in turned to "I" so we could listen to the radio, and he discovered the volume knob, as well as the hazards, and we were in there for 45 minutes and it was difficult to drag him out.
Also we have two days of a new routine, and it's become easier to brush his teeth... He gets jammies on at about 8:00 (I usually feed him dinner before Daddy gets home), and a bottle, and some story or quiet play time, and then teeth brushed, and by 9:00 I just rock him in his chair. He gets the Sunshine song (from yoga class) and then one long or two short songs, usually Loreena McKennitt or Liam Clancy or Tommy Makem or something Irishy. The last two days he's fallen asleep by the end of the song, but I expect that won't always be the case, so I will have to put him to bed awake and let him cry it out. On the weekends we also give him his bath around 7:30 and he plays until 8 or so. I have been using some bubble bath for "overtired and cranky" and it's nice and lavendary smelling. (All natural stuff, you know me.)
Anyway, it's been nice.
Now I have a million chore things to do... latah!

Time for a haircut?
Bunky's hair is getting long and crazy! I think it's time for a trim. The hair in the back is nice and curly and I like it, so just the front and sides will get a snip. It's hard cutting a baby's hair. They don't cooperate or sit still, and if your scissors or shears make noise they look toward it. I am thinking we'll do it when he's asleep or when Daddy holds him upsidedown...

We're also getting into a phase of hitting, pulling hair, throwing things at you, and so on, and those tantrums on the floor are getting more and more severe. Ahh yes, and we're not even at 15 months, let alone the "terrible twos" (and ones and threes...)

Here is a photo from early in March when we went to the mountains in search of snow. We found a small patch and had some fun. Frozen cow patties don't smell, what a keen discovery!

Neglected children everywhere will one day get to say, "My mom wrote a novel." Fintan is no exception.
He'll also get to say "My mom climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro when there was still snow on it." I'm so proud of him!
