Olympic Skiier! (not really, not yet)

Fintan sure knows how to talk big when it comes to skiing the Super G and crossing that finish line. His knowledge of Olympic Downhill (and Nordic) is overwhelmed with imagery of people skiing with poles. However, most beginner kids - especially those with the attention and listening skills of a four-year-old - learn without poles. Well, we did try them for about an hour, but he kept poking them in front of his skiis (on purpose) and falling, and the rest of the time I carried them, so we took them back.

We tried to teach him to snowplow, and I think he's getting the hang of it, and for about a total of 100 feet he actally skiied by himself, screaming in terror. He prefers to be "held" between our legs. Which is fine for me, because I only snowplow myself. I hate skiing. I much prefer to snowboard (and I suck at that). But you can't teach the fearful to snowboard when they can't even stand up on their own, so we'll get some independence on the slopes with four edges before we tackle two. He did seem to have fun, for the most part, but I think he's more in love with the image of being a skiier than actually doing it.

By the way, it's amazing how a kid's leg can twist 180 degrees and they dont even notice. Or maybe he's just a young Plastic Man, who knows.

After a hard day's work a young fella doesn't like to sleep alone. So he has a friend to sleep with, the tauntaun that is his tauntaun sleeping bag. (I can't wait to see what April Fool's gag gift ThinkGeek comes up with this year, because they really outdid themselves with this sleeping bag.) If you don't know what a tauntaun is, well, you're just missing out on some of the greatest parts of geek life.
