Test
This is just a test to see if I can email updates. If so, I should be able to post photos and updates directly from my blackberry!

Just an Update
It's been a long time since I've updated this blog. My bad! Been busy-crazy and also trying to avoid the computer and spend more time with the child.
Fintan is going through some cognitive leaps these past few weeks. I think it's that transition from "four" to "four and a half" developmentally speaking. It's very cute. He talks about things he learns in school now and is quick to pick up new concepts. We were in the car and he said, "Mommy, Daddy, we're going to take turns talking, okay?" and so then it was Mommy's turn, and so on... He talked about how the caterpillar makes a chrysalis and then when the butterfly comes out of the chrysalis it has to dry its wings and then it flies away. Or he practices his role as the "diver" in the school play (yes, their preschool has an elaborate school play) by army-crawling all over the kitchen and hardwood floors. So cute.
I finally got him into a soccer clinic at the parks & rec, but the coach is not stellar and doesn't understand the differences between the four and six year olds. So while he's desperately trying to teach game techniques to the six year olds, the four year olds are all picking daisies. They just don't get that, and all they want to do is run around, kick the ball, play games, and so forth. I put him in the clinic not to learn the game, which he will begin to learn this Fall in AYSO, though not thoroughly at age 4!, but mainly to just kick the ball around and have some fun while developing those footwork skills. He's the one who wanted to play so badly, and I think he's bored and discouraged. So now we moms play with our little ones when the coach goes strategy nuts... ah, I can tell I'm going to be coaching this Fall one way or the other!
He's been doing a lot of hitting at school and getting time-outs - I've been reassured this is normal four-year-old behavior and not to worry. However, we keep having to take things away to try to send a message, but he's not getting the message, so ... who knows :) Hopefully he'll outgrow it.
He's just getting cuter and cuter!

Neglected children everywhere will one day get to say, "My mom wrote a novel." Fintan is no exception.
He'll also get to say "My mom climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro when there was still snow on it." I'm so proud of him!
